Although the Dry Ice Blasting cleaning process is in itself a non-toxic and safe cleaning solution, like all machinery operation there are a few safety aspects that need to be observed during operation.
Never direct the gun at a person: dry ice pellets are blasted at speeds of up to 300 m/s
Use ear protection: due to the high air pressure, the noise level can reach over 100 dB
Wear protective gloves: to protect against the frost-bite hazard of handling the -79°C dry ice and avoid injury from contact with dry ice or frozen particles during blasting
Wear protective clothing: avoid injury from contact with dry ice or frozen particles during blasting
Wear face and eye protection: avoid injury from contact with dry ice or frozen particles during blasting
Wear dust mask: required should the fine dust produced during the process exceed 6mg/m3
Sufficient ventilation: should this not be possible (due to blasting in a confined area) a CO2-detector should be used
Small parts need to be secured before blasting
Electrical equipment should be well earthed during blasting: this reduces the possibility of electric static discharge
Use "dry" compressed air: requirement more significant for applications on electrical equipment
